As FOLFAN proudly celebrates its 17th anniversary, we invite you to become part of one of our signature events—our annual Photo Contest!
This contest is a great showcase of the creativity and talent found within our community of amateur photographers. Whether you’ve captured a
beautiful sunrise, local wildlife, or people enjoying the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area, we encourage you to submit up to four of your best
shots for this year’s competition.
In tribute to our popular Eagle Interpretive Program, we’re excited to debut a new category spotlighting our favorite Lake Natoma Eagle Family.
We hope you will join us in capturing the natural beauty and shared spirit that make these lakes so special!
Photo contest submission: January 30 – March 6
All contest entries will be displayed and winners will be announced at the
FOLFAN’s An Evening with Friends event on Sunday, March 22, 2026.
FOLFAN (Friends of Lakes Folsom and Natoma) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
organization, and a State Park Cooperating Association for the Folsom
Lake State Recreation Area. Our mission is enhancing education and
recreation opportunities for the public and protecting the wonders and
resources of Lakes Folsom and Natoma.
Photo Contest Rules
Our 2026 Photo Contest is intended for “amateur photographers”— meaning those who do not depend on their photography as a primary source of income.
Photographs submitted for the contest must be photos taken at or of the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area, including Lake Natoma and Folsom Lake.
They can be from any year as long as they have not been submitted previously.
You may submit up to four digital photos for the contest, but only one in each category:
1. Scenic
2. Wildlife
3. Recreation
4. Lake Natoma eagles
A blinded panel of judges will vote for a winner in each category and winners will be announced at our annual Member Appreciation Event on March 22nd.
You do not need to be present to win but we encourage all photographers to join us for a fun evening of music, food, speakers and photography awards.
The submission deadline is midnight, March 6, 2026
Please submit your high resolution photos by emailing them to photocontest@folfan.org with the subject FOLFAN Photo Contest 2026.
Be sure to include a brief title for each photo along with your name, email address and phone number.
Note: Any image you submit to our Photo Contest gives FOLFAN the right to use the photo anytime for FOLFAN promotional purposes (with appropriate credit given).
